Bridon Ropes were edged out by Lewisham Borough as a late winner carrying more than a hint of offside settled Saturday’s South London derby.
Lewisham took the lead through Cairo Duhaney-Burton after 26 minutes, but the Ropes responded before the interval. David Makisi found the net in the 45th minute to score his first goal since returning to the club and send the sides in level.
Debut goalkeeper Oli Ogosi delivered a commanding performance throughout. With the score at 1–1, he produced four outstanding saves to keep the Ropes firmly in the contest.
The decisive moment arrived in the 82nd minute when Harry Bunclark restored Lewisham’s lead, although there was more than a hint of offside in the build-up to the goal.
The Ropes continued searching for a second equaliser, but the visitors held on to take all three points.
Despite the disappointing result, Makisi’s return to the scoresheet and an assured debut from Ogosi provided positives to take forward.
