Second-Half Goals See Ropes Beaten in Season Opener

SCEFL Division One
Saturday 8 August 2026 | 3:00pm
Bridon Ropes FC, Charlton Park Lane
Attendance: 88

Bridon Ropes began their 2026/27 SCEFL Division One campaign with a 3–1 defeat to Staplehurst Monarchs at Charlton Park Lane on Saturday afternoon.

On a hot afternoon in SE7, there was little to separate the sides during the opening 45 minutes, with neither team able to find a breakthrough before the interval.

The game changed shortly after the restart as Staplehurst struck twice in the space of five minutes. Bradley Webb opened the scoring in the 59th minute before Oliver Lankshear doubled the visitors’ advantage on 64 minutes.

Manager Uche Ibemere responded immediately with a double change. Yedidja Kossi replaced captain Emmanuel Oshinowo and Omololu Odusanya came on for Jordan Samuel, both on the hour mark.

Two further substitutions followed in the 75th minute, with Mohamed Kebe replacing Anselme Daho and Mojeed Adisa taking the place of Younus Mansor.

Bridon continued to search for a route back into the contest and were rewarded in the 88th minute when substitute Yedidja Kossi found the net to reduce the deficit to 2–1 and open his account for the new league campaign.

With the Ropes pushing for a late equaliser, Staplehurst responded with a third through Timmy Babington to secure all three points.

The quick double from Staplehurst after the interval ultimately proved decisive. Bridon nevertheless continued to compete, with Kossi’s late goal providing encouragement as attention turns to next weekend’s trip to Greenways.
