Bridon Ropes FC were forced to settle for a point on Saturday afternoon as they drew 1–1 with Croydon FC in the Southern Counties East Football League Division One, in what marked Uche Ibemere’s first match in charge of the club.

The Ropes made a positive start under their returning manager and were rewarded with the opening goal midway through the first half. Taylor Fisher delivered an excellent ball into the box which was met by Shegs Akuwumni, who finished calmly to give Bridon a deserved lead. The hosts went into the interval 1–0 ahead, having shown good energy and organisation throughout the opening 45 minutes.

Goalkeeper Albert Penney was again in impressive form, producing several important saves in key moments to preserve Bridon’s advantage. His shot stopping and command of the penalty area proved vital as Croydon looked to respond before the break.

The second half proved more challenging for the home side. On 65 minutes, Adrian Brown received a second yellow card, reducing Bridon to ten men and shifting the momentum of the contest. Croydon increased their pressure as the game wore on and eventually found an equaliser in the 82nd minute, converting from a corner to level the score.

Despite being a man down, Bridon showed resilience and discipline in the closing stages, defending resolutely to see out the match and secure a well earned point.

The result represents a solid and encouraging start under the new management team, with plenty of positives to take as the season continues.
