MATCH REPORT: Bridon Ropes 3–4 Cockfosters Reserves
London Senior Trophy – Meridian Sports & Social Club
Bridon Ropes bowed out of the London Senior Trophy in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon, despite a strong attacking display and a lightning-fast start at Meridian Sports & Social Club.
Ropes were out of the blocks early, and it took just five minutes for Taylor Fisher to open his goal account for the club. After latching onto a well-weighted pass, he showed real composure to fire low across the keeper and give the hosts a perfect start.
The pressure continued to mount on the visitors, and in the 14th minute, Harley Baker doubled the advantage with a neat finish inside the box, also opening his scoring account for the Ropes.
But Cockfosters Reserves refused to fold. As the half wore on, they settled into possession and pulled one back on 30 minutes, capitalising on a sustained spell of pressure. Ropes continued to create chances, yet a late attack before the break proved costly, with the visitors levelling to send the sides in at 2–2.
Ropes regrouped at half-time and came out with renewed intent. The introduction of Shegs Akuwnmi immediately paid off, as the substitute took his chance brilliantly early in the second period, restoring a 3–2 lead.
However, the momentum swung again. Cockfosters pushed forward with purpose, equalising once more to make it 3–3, and the closing stages became increasingly tense. With four minutes left on the clock, a failed clearance provided the visitors with a golden opening — one they took clinically, turning the match on its head and securing a 4–3 victory.
Despite home advantage and a strong position throughout the match, Bridon Ropes were left to reflect on a missed opportunity to progress. The attacking quality was clear, but defensive lapses proved costly.
