Match Report: Soul Tower Hamlets 2–0 Bridon Ropes
FA Vase Second Qualifying Round – Mile End Stadium, Saturday 20 September 2025, Kick-off 3:00pm
We travelled to Mile End Stadium full of belief, but came away empty-handed in what was a tough FA Vase tie. Despite showing flashes of quality and plenty of endeavour, errors at key moments proved costly.
First Half
We started the match with defensive discipline, giving Soul Tower Hamlets few clear-cut chances. In the opening exchanges both sides probed, but neither could seize control. We looked solid at the back, compact in midfield, limiting their opportunities.
However, just before half-time a loose moment in midfield from us was punished. Soul broke quickly and managed to score from the transition. It was harsh — we had done enough to have gone in level — but were trailing 1-0 at the interval.
Second Half
The second period saw Soul gain momentum. At around 64 minutes their No. 7, in a goal which arguably should’ve been flagged offside (our view being the line was not kept with the play), drifted past our defence and curled in a near-post finish. That made it 2-0 and suddenly the match tilted further in their favour.
We weren’t deterred. Our first real effort on target came in the 75th minute: a direct free-kick from Manny Oshinowo forced a good save from their keeper, pushed around the post. Moments later a mix-up at the back from their centre-back saw a back header slip past the keeper — but it went agonisingly wide. Those moments showed what might have been, had we converted.
Overall
While the result isn’t what we wanted, there was much to admire. Our defensive start was strong, energy levels high, and we had spells where we looked dangerous. Lapses in concentration, especially that midfield error and the misjudged position on their second goal, proved decisive.
We take away positives: the grit, the chances created, and knowing we can compete. We’ll learn, regroup, and aim to make the next cup outing one to remember.
